external hard drives

anyone got any info on reliable and fast hard drives I'm experiences problems with fire-wire (if you havn't guessed I'm on an apple mac)

What kind of problems are you experiencing? I'm sure someone on the board can help. I have two fantom drives (firewire) and they work like a charm...

thanks for replying
I have a LaCie 45 gig external firewire HD
the problems have been numerous
From slow data transfer rates to the whole thing crashing and having to re-initialize the disk (losing about 20 gigs of info )
I upgraded my Firewire enabler to 2.5
In the end it just stopped working couldn't open or save files to it although its icon was on my desktop
It even caused my very stable Mac to crash
I also couldn't defragment the drive Low memory error(nortons disk doctor)
